Ekaterina Balaban was born in Berezniki in the Urals. Since 2022 based in Latvia. 

Ekaterina Balaban works with the medium of documentary photography and topics of anthropogenic changes and colonial intervention in nature, psychogeography and social memory of the natural landscape. This interest is closely related to her personal experience. The city in which she was born experienced a man-made environmental disaster, which was the result of the colonial Soviet concept of subjugating nature.


As an artist and documentary photographer, she participates in exhibitions and is being published in magazines.
